BE SMART!

Siobhan Masterson is certified as a trainer in the Stress Management and Resiliency Training (SMART) model. Developed at the Benson-Henry Institute for Mind Body Medicine at Mass General and Harvard Medical School, the SMART class is proven to be able to provide significant and observable positive changes in physical and mental health for:

  • Headaches or migraines

  • Anxiety related symptoms

  • Autoimmune disorders

  • Mild to moderate depression

  • Chronic pain or TMJ

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome

  • Insomnia or fatigue

  • Gastrointestinal disorders

  • Skin problems and others

SMART classes consist of eight 2 hour classes via Zoom or in person in a comfortable conference room or on site at your organization, and can be modified for individual or family sessions as well. SMART classes consist of three areas of teaching: learning your own unique stress and relaxation response codes, learning how to trigger the relaxation response through mindfulness, yoga, imagery, and other techniques, and learning adaptive strategies such as use of humor and learning adaptive versus negative thinking, a form of cognitive behavioral therapy. All techniques taught are highly evidence based individually and the model as a whole also has research to support its worth.

Topics for some classes include: learning your own stress response, how to breathe to regulate your emotions, learning ways to savor positive experiences, visualization as a tool to relax, latest research on sleep and exercise, and so on. Participants have said things such as “it changed the way I managed my stress!”, “I wish I could have a SMART class every year,” and “descriptions such as “empowering,” “wonderful” and great concrete skills I could use every day.” Other SMART feedback:

“Our trainer was exceptional in delivering her knowledge and meeting the group where they were at.”

“The trainer was awesome and she dedicated herself to the class.”
